Recurrent Announces 2025 Best Places to Buy and Best Used EV

Sales of used electric vehicles increased 63% in 2024 with expectations to grow by another 57% in 2025.

Recurrent’s research team of market analysts and battery scientists today announces winners of its used EV market awards, including Best Used Electric Vehicle and Best Places to Buy Used Electric Vehicles. While milestones in new EV sales attract most of the headlines, the used EV market is coming off a year of record growth and doubling in size every two years with affordable electrified options. An estimated 30 percent of the used EV market remains eligible for federal rebates.

Best Used Electric Vehicle

Nissan’s 2023 Ariya claims the award for Best Used EV of 2025. It is the first model by Nissan to be recognized in the three years that Recurrent has awarded this category. Researchers say that the Ariya sets itself apart with prices under $30,000 for many configurations, tech-forward interiors, semi-autonomous driving features, and excellent remaining manufacturer warranties and winter performance. Previous winners include the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt and 2018 Tesla Model 3.

Best Places to Buy

Researchers are also announcing the Best Places to Buy a Used EV, based on volume, variety, federal rebate participation and availability of EV insights during the shopping process. The finalists are organized into four regions.

  • West: Capitol KIA, EV Auto, Century Auto, Bill Luke Santan, Las Vegas Auto Sports, FaceAutos, Stevens Creek Hyundai, Fremont Hyundai, Plug In Auto
  • Central: iDrive1, AutoMay, Birmingham Luxury Motors, McCluskey Chevrolet
  • East: Easterns Automotive Group, Carvision, Drive A Dream, HGreg, Electric Car Corner, Green Wave, Recharged, Carolina EV, Eco Auto, Motorpoint Roswell, Hendrick CDJR Duluth, J&S Autohaus
  • National: CarMax, Carvana, Hertz Car Sales

The research team analyzes over 5,000 dealerships in the US before selecting finalists.

Best Winter Range

Each year Recurrent grades winter EV performance to find the top performers for drivers who live in cold climates. The best used EV options for cold weather include:

  • 2020 Tesla Model Y
  • 2023 Nissan Ariya
  • 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD
  • 2021-22 Audi e-tron

Eligible vehicles must have an average price below $35,000 and maintain 80% of their ideal weather range in freezing conditions.
