Our real-world data from thousands of electric cars shows batteries usually lose only 5-8% of capacity in three years. More dramatic drops are uncommon.
Battery degradation is one of the most pressing concerns for Tesla Model 3 owners, especially after the factory warranty period. According to our data, most Tesla Model 3 batteries maintain over 94% of their original range after three years or around 40,000–50,000 miles.
Modern lithium-ion batteries, like those in Teslas, often lose more capacity in the first year as the battery settles into its long-term state. The rate of degradation then tapers off for the life of the car.
Practicing good charging habits, such as keeping the battery between 20-80% for daily use and charging at home when possible, may slow the natural progression of range loss.
If your range loss is significantly more than this or you see sudden drops, it could be a warranty issue to raise with Tesla.
